Iron Gate of Jerusalem Prison

The year is 44 a.d. Sixteen soldiers guard a stone block in Jerusalem. The air holds the heavy heat of the spring feast. Peter sleeps chained between two guards. Iron rings bite into his flesh.

King Herod Agrippa ordered the arrest to please local authorities. The ruler recently executed James with a sword and holds Peter in the cell to await a public trial. While Jewish and Gentile believers gather in a nearby house to pray, a sudden light breaks the darkness of the prison. An angel strikes Peter on the side. The iron chains drop to the stone floor. The heavy gate swings open.

Roman military law demands blood for a missing prisoner. Guards who lose a captive face execution. Peter walks past the iron gate and into the dark streets. The sixteen soldiers wake to face death at dawn. Iron bars and armed men fail to stop the Creator. The king commands the province, but the king cannot break the plan of the Almighty, because he works exactly as he pleases.

A man in chains is only as secure as the iron lock. Earthly power snaps when it strikes the hand of the Maker.

Herod drops dead shortly after the escape. Worms consume the king and end his reign. The movement grows as the story of the empty cell spreads through the stone streets.
